AAA Math provides second graders with opportunities to learn, practice, play and explore math.  

ABCya! Second Grade children's computer games & activities feature large and easy-to-use navigation buttons as well as voice instructions. Games and activities include: alphabetical order, upper-case and lower-case letters, counting numbers, connect the dots, numerical order, shapes, addition, e-storybooks and holiday games.  

A-Z Animals  Welcome to A-Z Animals, an online animal encyclopedia where you can learn about all your favorite animals, and even some you may have never heard of! 

Common Core Math Lessons for Grade 2:  Check out these math lessons for second graders.

Common Core Standards - Mathematics: This site provides the National Core Standards for mathematics for Grade 2.  The standards for English/Language Arts - reading, speaking, writing, and listening are also available.

Grade 2 Science and Technology:  Link to Learning offers multiple resources, including games, activities, and video clips for teachers to use with their second graders. 

Intel Teach Elements Units for K-2:  This site provides multiple units based on Understanding by Design. 

  • Healthy Eating: Are We What We Eat?: Are we really what we eat?  Grade: K-2, Science, Math  Primary students investigate the age-old adage: You are what you eat. Students plan a healthy diet, create slideshow presentations to show how to make healthy food choices, learn about the food pyramid, interview classmates about food choices, and create a graph based on information gathered. Most importantly, students learn about how to make healthy food choices to live a long, healthy life.
  • Meet the Bears: Are we like other animals?  Grade: 2, Science, Mathematics   How many of ME would it take to outweigh a polar bear? Primary students look at bears from all angles and apply math and measurement skills to compare themselves with their furry friends.
  • Monster Swap: How can I communicate so others will understand?
    Grade: 1-3, Language Arts  Primary students give their imaginations a workout by creating unique monsters. They then hone their writing skills by writing descriptions for cyber pals who will try to re-create the students’ terrible beasts!
  • Multimedia Morning Mania: How do we make meaning with symbols?  Grade: K-2, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science  A multimedia slideshow focuses young students' attention on academics as they arrive at school. The interactive presentation offers an engaging and entertaining way to introduce and reinforce important concepts and skills.
  • My Family: Past, Present, and Future: How will I make a difference?  Grade: 2, Social Studies, Mathematics   Students in grade two explore the lives of actual people who make a difference in their everyday lives and differentiate between events that happened long ago and events that happened yesterday by studying their family histories.

 IXL Math – Grade 2:  Here is a list of all of the skills students learn in second grade! The skills are organized into categories, and you can move your mouse over any skill name to see a sample question. To start practicing, just click on any link. IXL will track your score, and the questions will even increase in difficulty as you improve!

KidZone Grade 2 This site provides students opportunities in alphabet recognition and printing practice, math, reading, and science as well as thematic units.

Math Interactive Site for Smartboard Use - Grades K-5  This site was compiled by the Oak Street Elementary in the Plattsbrgh City School District in New York.

MathMagic: Each grade band directory has links to plain text files that can be viewed online (or downloaded) and to MS Word documents that can be downloaded.  

Mrs. Hicks’s 2nd Grade Classroom:  Mrs. Hicks retired June, 2011, but continues to share her web site for parents, students, and teachers.  The site also includes technology sites for second graders. 

MyTestBook  offers practice for students in math, reading, and science.  You do need to creat a log-in, but it is free and has much to offer.

National Geographic for Kids  Explore kids’ games, animals, photos, stories, and more.

Online Geoboard  Students can create/manipulate shapes like they would on a real geoboard.

Problem-Based Lesson Plans for Grade 2.

PT21 - Math Map  Developed through a year-long collaborative process, this map illustrates the integration of mathematics and 21st century skills.  It provides concrete examples of the 21st century skills and how they can be integrated into your math class.

 Spelling City:  The mission of this site is efficient learning of literacy skills and word study. 

StoryLine OnLine The Screen Actors Guild foundations brings you this web site, an on-line streaming video program featuring SAG members reading children’s books aloud.  Each book includes accompanying activities and lesson ideas.  

Sum Sense – Single Digit Addition  Dag and drop the number cards to make “sum” sense.

SumDog  www.sumdog.provides for free teacher sign-in. The program covers common core state standards from grades 1-6. Teachers can pick the level of practice and skills they want their students to be working on. Students can log in at home. 

Technology and Second Graders:  Check out this site for the skills in technology a second grader should develop - all aligned with the Common Core.

TenMarks is a webbased math program for grades 2 through high school. It encourages students to practice and learn through fun and interactive math exercises that make even the most difficult concepts easy to understand with hints and videos. TenMarks provides teachers and administrators with the tools for assessment and instruction for all 3 tiers of Response to Intervention (RTI). 

Word Girl:  PBS provides games, videos, and characters.

XtraMath  Free web-based program can be used at school and at home for practice of the basic facts to increase speed and accuracy. Teachers can individualize student fact practice program, track student progress and print flyers to go home.

Zoodle Games:  With these second-grade games, children learn important concepts in matching, reasoning, strategic thinking, and much more.
