• Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) is a professional development program based on an integrated program of research focused on (a) the development of students’ mathematical thinking; (b) instruction that influences that development; (c) teachers’ knowledge and beliefs that influence their instructional practices; and (d) the way that teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and practices are influenced by their understanding of students’ mathematical thinking. Using CGI strategies is an effective way of implementing the Iowa Core Curriculum for Mathematics at the elementary level.
• Common Core Tools  This site provides an analysis tool to assure alignment with the Iowa Core.  Educators can also join Bill Bush in a blog about the Common Core State Standards; they can also access the learning progressions in all the math domains.
• # Developing Effective Instruction for Fractions, Ratios, and Proportional  Thinking (Grades 4-8)  Fractions are a rich part of mathematics and the understanding of fractions is essential for algebra and other advanced areas of mathematics.  Teaching fractions is both important and challenging, yet this complex topic causes more trouble for elementary and middle school students than any other area of mathematics.  Fractions tend to be manipulated by rote rather than making sense of the concepts and procedures.  Greater understanding of fractions, knowledge of students' conceptions and misconceptions about fractions, and effective practices for teaching fractions are critically important for this challenging area of mathematics instruction.  This E-Seminar will concentrate on developing mathematical and instructional knowledge of fractions, ratios, and proportional thinking to improve students' understanding of fractional concepts and procedures.

• Educore - Math provides many tools for teaching math at all levels. Here you can access formative assessment lesson plans, student materials, PowerPoint slides, and other tools to facilitate the implementation of math resources in support of the Common Core State Standards.
• Effective Mathematics Instruction: The Role of Mathematical Tasks (K-12):  This seminar focuses on the relationship between the nature of the mathematical tasks in which students engage and what students ultimately learn about what mathematics is and how one does it.  Specifically, the seminar focuses on the cognitive demands of mathematical tasks, how these demands can change during instruction, and why maintaining the high level demands of tasks is critical to student learning.  Participants have opportunity to engage in an analysis of two tasks, to analyze several short vignettes of classroom instruction, and to consider research that makes salient the impact of tasks on learning.
• Goalbook Pathways provides teachers with standard-aligned resources to support students at all levels. Find assessments at multiple levels of rigor, differentiated activities, graphic organizers, and engaging real-world mini-projects.
• The Illustrative Mathematics Project  This website provides a process for submitting, discussing, reviewing, and publishing tasks. It also displays the standards in multiple views and provides easy access to tasks associated with individual standards and tasks associated with higher order structures in the standards. It also addresses progressions.
• Inside Mathematics  Visitors will find classroom examples of innovative teaching methods and insights into student learning, tools for mathematics instruction that teachers can use immediately, and video tours of the ideas and materials on the site. Problems of the month and performance assessments are also included.
• The Institute of Math Education - Progressions:  This website provides progressions for mathematics.  This project is organizing the writing of final versions of the progressions documents for the K–12 Common Core State Standards. The work will be undertaken by members of the original work team of the progressions and also by mathematicians and educators not involved in the initial writing.
• ### Iowa Core Professional Development Modules for Instructional and Content Shifts.  The following professional development modules have been added to help teachers with instructional and content shifts within Iowa Core Mathematics:

• Iowa Council of Teachers of Math:

The purposes of the Iowa Council of Teachers of Mathematics are:

1. To encourage an active interest in mathematics and its teaching, and work toward the improvement of mathematics education programs in Iowa.

2. To provide a medium for exchange of views and facts about current problems, techniques, and experimental programs in the teaching of mathematics.

3. To provide cooperative experimentation and study of problems relating to the teaching of mathematics at all levels, and to assist in the development, coordination, and carrying out of a sustained program for improving instruction in mathematics through the provision of such aids as meetings, bulletins, research studies, and informative services.

4. To encourage and assist other state and national organizations concerned with mathematics education at all levels.

• Khan Academy  With a library of over 2,600 videos covering everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history and 211 practice exercises, The Khan Academy is on a mission to help you learn what you want, when you want, at your own pace.
• Lessons and Resources NCTM provides resources, including lessons, problems by grade levels, teaching tips, and even a Family Corner.
• Math Leadership  Instructional coaches for mathematics will find this site helpful in implementing new mathematics content and practices.
• National Council of Teachers of Math   NCTM is a public voice of mathematics education supporting teachers to ensure equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students through vision, leadership, professional development and research.
• Online Geoboard  Students can create/manipulate shapes like they would on a real geoboard.
• PurpleMath  Purplemath's algebra lessons are written with the student in mind. These lessons emphasize the practicalities rather than the technicalities, demonstrating dependable techniques, warning of likely "trick" questions, and pointing out common mistakes.
• Six Shifts in Mathematics:  This document provides the six shifts  that the Common Core requires of us if we are to be truly aligned with it in terms of curricular materials and classroom instruction.
• The Teaching Channel   Visit this site to access more than 200 videos to promote teaching in math.
• TenMarks is a web-based math program for grades 2 through high school. It encourages students to practice and learn through fun and interactive math exercises that make even the most difficult concepts easy to understand with hints and videos. TenMarks provides teachers and administrators with the tools for assessment and instruction for all 3 tiers of Response to Intervention (RTI).
• YouTube Videos for Math  The Hunt Institute has developed these videos for the Common Core Standards and insight into teaching practices to support the standards.
