Mike Beranek, a 30-year veteran teacher, was elected president of the Iowa State Education Association in April 2018 by member delegates at the annual Delegate Assembly. They reelected Mike for a second term in 2021.
Mike served as vice president of the ISEA from 2012-2015. Mike has also served as the ISEA’s representative on the NEA Board of Directors 2009 to 2012 and has been active in the association as a member of the ISEA Executive Board. He is a member of the Commission on Educator Leadership and Compensation, Iowa Department of Education State Assessment Committee, Iowa Department Teacher of the Year selection committee and serves on the Comprehensive Center Network Region 9 Board.
Mike was the proud recipient of the Disney American Teacher Award for 2001, being cited for his innovative classroom projects and activities. Mike received his Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with Preschool from Iowa State University in 1984, and a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education from Iowa State University in 1988.
